How it all started

When a member of our team converted a simple children’s toy into a medical grade centrifuge, the world of frugal engineering cracked wide open. Here in the FSA, we advance curiosity-driven frugal science — looking at everyday objects and seeing immense new engineering potential, especially for applications in synthetic biology.

Because experimentation, exploration, and innovation shouldn’t be limited to those with access to specific tools. Our goal is to break down barriers to entry for science and engineering students through easy-to-implement curricula and open access resources.
